What we do:
KMC offers a variety of services, both singular and integrated, to leading local and international companies in the marine and transport industries, on a turnkey or stand alone basis.
Key operating areas:
Privately owned base/yard
KMC operates the Comarco Base, a privately owned harbour fronting yard, which lies approximately 2 ˝ Km from Mombasa Town Centre, by way of Moi Avenue, Tangana Road and Mikanjuni Road. Access to these roads is via the Southern Gate and over a recently refurbished bridge capable of handling load in excess of 65mt.The Base comprises 10.75 acres of open and covered storage space, office space and facilities, crawler cranes up to 150tonnes capacity, a marine engineering workshop and a 24hour Operations Centre, which combine to provide a facility unequalled on the East Coast of Africa.
Secured by a perimeter fence and only accessible by land via two security gates each manned 24 hours a day by fully trained security personnel equipped with radio communications, panic buttons and VESP (Verification Entry Standard Procedures).
Sea access is controlled by additional security personnel who patrol the jetty area. By night, KMC Base is fully illuminated by a series of light sensitive high wattage sodium floodlights to provide facility for 24 hour operations where required and to ensure that security is not compromised. A trained guard dog and their handler, together with two additional patrolmen complete the night security complement.KMC operates and offers the following facilities and services from this base:
- Administration Office:- all projects and movement of vessels across the field of operation are co-ordinate by the Management and Administration team from the Liwatoni base with reliable communication links to projects and vessels via a dedicated 24 hour radio room.
- Workshop:- operating a fully self-sufficient workshop geared toward plant, machinery and vessel servicing, repairs and maintenance on a 24 hour basis as required.
- Export Processing Zone (EPZ):- The Comarco Base is a designated Export Processing Zone (EPZ), a facility which enables the customs and duty exempted importation and exportation of plant, equipment and materials, including, but not limited to, drilling rigs and associated plant, materials and equipment, construction plant and equipment and specialised project cargoes. KMC’s own in house clearing and documentation department will assist with all formalities with regards to importation, exportation and
Kenyan government legislation.
- Private wharf:- KMC operates their own sufferance wharf within the port area, where vessels may be loaded and discharged by KMC’s experienced stevedores on a 24 hour basis as required. The wharf has an extensive frontage to Liwatoni Creek, situated 2km on the North side of Kilindini Harbour, Mombasa, and is easily accessible by road and sea, with a minimum of 6.4 metres alongside draft and capable of handling ships of 100 metres loa and 9,000tdwt. The wharf additionally has a heavy duty ro-ro ramp capable of handling heavy loads in excess of 200tons, and a barge berth able to handle barges of up to 5,000tdwt.
Ideally situated in Liwatoni Bay at the entrance to Mombasa Harbour, KMC Base is easily and readily accessible by sea, road and rail.

Marine contracting
KMC carries out the following marine and general contacting services on an integrated or stand alone basis:
- Offshore support – marine and general support services
- Marine engineering; repairs, servicing and maintenance of owned and third party vessels
- Marine Logistics
- Marine transport; quay to quay, quay to beach
- Salvage and towage
- Skilled & Experienced workforce – ships crews, marine and offshore superintendents, stevedores, riggers, operators, welders
- Marine construction; piling, soil sampling, slipways, jetties, wharfs, etc
- Project/Site Camp; set up and operation
- Commercial diving; inspections and repairs of structures and vessels
- Fabrication and breaking of ships, barges and boats
Vessel Charter
KMC owns, operates and manages a number of vessels available for short or long term charter along the eastern and southern African coastline.Shipping
KMC transports both containerised and break-bulk cargoes via its own and chartered vessels throughout the east and southern African coastline.
